After a horrendous few years, it’s great to see little reminders of what life was like pre-pandemic as we edge closer to normality.
If you’re keen to get out there to network and learn with/from your fellow backend engineers, you might find this short-list of European technical conferences helpful.
So feel free to scroll down, assess your options and ease yourself back into the tech conference scene this year.
Taking place at London’s Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre between the 4th and 6th April, QCon London is the place to be for senior software engineers with a passion for learning from the global tech community. This conference aims to inspire change and innovation while helping you adopt the correct software practices.
With QCon now in its 16th year, QCon London is the first and only physical stop off of their 2022 calendar in Europe.
Boasting speakers like Luca Palmieri, Principal Engineer at TrueLayer, Victoria Morgan-Smith, Director of Delivery for Engineering Enablement at Financial Times, and Selina Liu, Senior Software Engineer at Airbnb — it’s easy to see why four stages of early-bird concessions have already sold out.
If you’re quick, you’ll be able to secure your tickets for £65 less if you get in there before 7th March to see the 30+ other speakers currently confirmed.
Devoxx France is part of a family of conferences that typically tour the world every year. It takes place between 20th and 22nd April and primarily focuses on Java.
Devoxx France usually attracts over 3,000 attendees, mostly developers and DevOps engineers, 300+ exhibitors, and this year they’re hosting 240 speakers, offering hands-on lectures and interactive workshops.
Taking place at the Palais des Congrès in Paris, tickets for Devoxx France will set you back €290 for their Wednesday “deep dive day”. The day includes three-hour-long sessions and interactive practical workshops being the order of business.
Or, for €520, you could opt for the Thursday and Friday “conference days” consisting of shorter speaker sessions and a lot more networking. Attending the whole three-day event will cost you about €660, with discounts available for any group bookings over ten.
This two-day conference in Lithuania’s capital, Vilnius, will take place between the 27th and 28th April 2022.
DevDays Europe 2022 is a software development conference featuring internationally renowned developers and speakers, where new technologies and innovative practices in software development are shared. Most speakers will be on-site, with a few speakers live-streaming to the Vilnius audience.
With keynote speaker PJ Hagerty, Head of DevRel at Mattermost, concentrating on Ruby, PHP and JavaScript, other speakers such as Alex Thissen and Frederieke Scheper discuss advancements in .NET and Python. Basically, DevDays is a pretty good choice for any backend engineer interested in these areas.
Earlybird tickets are sold out but don’t worry; the conference is still reasonably affordable, with the regular tickets costing €680 until 17th March. This ticket covers you not only for the April conference, but you also gain access to several virtual workshops in May.
Finally, we have Future Tech 2022 — a slightly shorter one-day conference dedicated mainly to .NET performance, focusing on .NET Core, ASP.NET Core, Azure, plus various Microsoft technologies.
Taking place at the Jaarbeurs Utrecht, Netherlands, the 21st June 2022 marks this popular conference’s return to the physical stage, following a year of virtual streaming due to the pandemic.
Boasting top speakers from around the globe, including the likes of Brendan Burns, Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President and creator of Kubernetes, plus many more, Future Tech 2022 is ideally suited for any backend engineers who are looking to improve their skills in the .NET area.
But with early bird tickets no longer available and standard ticket sales coming to an end on 17th March, you’ll need to move fast to get your tickets for this conference, which will set you back €169.99.
