Fintech Powerhouse Recharge.com Launches Development Hub in Lisbon

Fintech Powerhouse Recharge.com Launches Development Hub in Lisbon

And they’re hiring Fullstack and QA Engineers!

1 February 2022

There’s a new kid on Lisbon’s tech block. Amsterdam-based Recharge.com, the European leader in online consumer-branded payments, closed a colossal $35 million Series B round of funding. The new investment, one of the largest into a Dutch scale-up in 2021, has accelerated their international expansion, launching a new development hub in Lisbon, Portugal.

Recharge.com is one of Europe’s fastest-growing technology companies. Each year, they help over 3 million people process more than $500 million in consumer-branded payments. The global need for alternative payment methods, combined with the popularity of e-wallets and smartphones, has catapulted Recharge.com to startup fame, and they’re only scratching the surface!

Why Lisbon?

Recharge joins a star-studded list of startups and scale-ups who are setting up technology hubs in the Portuguese capital. Lisbon’s high quality of engineering talent, business-friendly policies and English language proficiency have attracted many new commercial residents in recent years, from Mollie and Mycujoo to Zalando and Google.

The opening of this new office is incredibly exciting for us. It marks yet another milestone and is a natural next step for our international growth strategy,” said Recharge.com’s CEO Günther Vogelpoel. “Lisbon is the perfect next destination for us as we take on the world of branded payments from not just one, but two key locations in Europe. As one of the most vibrant new technology hubs in Europe, there is a great match in both talent and capabilities for Recharge’s ambitions. I am looking forward to welcoming our new colleagues and making them part of our great Recharge adventure.

In addition to the high quality of engineering talent in Lisbon, Recharge already employs a large Brazilian workforce who share a cultural history with Portugal, forming the ideal basis to ramp up Lisbon as a new location.

Based out of LX Factory, in the prime hotspot of the Alcântara neighbourhood, the teams in their new development hub will be focusing on:

The introduction of custom financial services and Optimising customer experience services and features.

The hub will house predominantly software and QA engineers and the team will be an extension of the current product capabilities in Amsterdam, accelerating product development in line with the company’s international growth strategy.

Did someone say modern technology?

What to expect on the software engineering team

As Software Engineer, you will be part of the new feature development team headed up by one of Recharge.com’s long-standing Engineering Managers who is relocating to Lisbon.

What to expect on the QA team

As QA Engineer your role will be predominantly focused on optimising current practices as well as building testing infrastructure from the ground up. You’ll own the quality process from start to finish and coach engineers in and across teams about standards and quality principles. You’ll play a key role in a team building a product where reliability is a core function.

“Over the course of my career, I have worked for 6 different technology companies. The Engineering teams at Recharge are by far the most collaborative teams I’ve worked with.
